Street Rugby League 2010

Safer Bridgend has worked with the Welsh Rugby League and Communities First to successfully deliver the Street Rugby Programme for 2010

In a partnership initiative, young people in Caerau, Nantymoel, Sarn and Wildmill were coached by the Welsh Rugby League and Police Community Support Officers in friendly rugby matches in their neighbourhood.

From mid April to September weekly training sessions took place and a rugby match and tag festival involving all the teams took place at the end of each month culminating in a Finals day at the Riverside Hardware Brewery Field on 20th September 2010.

All the Street Rugby League training and games were held in open community spots such as local parks, making it more accessible for youngsters to get involved. All ages and abilities were invited to take part.

During the Street Rugby Sessions other activities were available for youths to get involved with in these areas, including boxing and dancing.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for Street Rugby League or just want to know more, contact the WRL Community Development Officer Richard Lewis on 07891 591683.
