Charlotte Porter
BCBC Domestic Abuse Co-ordinator

My job is to develop a more co-ordinated approach to dealing with domestic abuse in Bridgend County. Domestic abuse appears in many shapes and forms. It can involve physical, sexual, mental, financial or emotional abuse. Some people suffer domestic abuse but fail to report it to the police, whereas other victims do not recognise that they are being subjected to abuse. Currently, I am in the process of developing a forum where representatives from South Wales Police, Bridgend County Borough Council, Women's Aid, social services, the courts, housing associations, charities and many more organisations all work together strategically to raise awareness and tackle domestic abuse throughout the borough, improve services for sufferers, and provide training for professionals to deal with abuse and to identify warning signs. By liaising with voluntary and statutory organisations, the Safer Bridgend Partnership hopes to raise the profile of the forum and domestic abuse. |
